Pilates for athletes

Why runners, golfers and lifters end up on a reformer.

Pilates for athletes

Runners, golfers, cricketers, lifters, tennis players — a surprising number of people who train seriously end up on a reformer. They usually arrive for the same reason: they want to move better in their sport, not just get stronger.

What it adds to a training week

Most sports ask the body to repeat the same patterns thousands of times. Running is mostly forward. Golf and tennis rotate predominantly one way. Over time that tends to build imbalances, and Pilates offers a structured place to work on the directions and sides your sport doesn't.

Single-leg and rotational control

Much of athletic Pilates is single-sided: one leg on the carriage, one arm in a strap. It asks you to stabilise while something moves, which is close to what happens when you plant a foot to change direction or rotate through a swing.

Heavier springs, faster tempo

Our Athletic Pilates class is built for people who already train. The springs are heavier, the tempo is quicker, and there's more emphasis on power and single-leg work than in a standard reformer class.

Lagree as a complement

If you want sustained, high-effort work, Lagree on the megaformer is the hardest class on our timetable — slow reps, constant tension and no rest between exercises. It runs at both of our studios.

Fitting it around your sport

For most athletes, one or two sessions a week alongside normal training is plenty. Schedule the harder classes away from your heaviest sport days, and use a Stretch & Release session on a recovery day.

A note on injuries

If you're working back from an injury, speak to your physiotherapist first. Clinical Pilates at Life Pilates is designed to work alongside their guidance, and we're happy to coordinate with them.

Private sessions

If your sport has specific demands, a private session lets an instructor build a programme around them. It's also the fastest way to learn the movements properly before joining group classes.

Book a session at Chattarpur or DLF Galleria.

Reading is not the same as doing.

Small groups, springs set for you, and an instructor who keeps correcting you all hour.
